 Healthy Weight Clinic Drop-In

Health Visitor advice, baby weighing and chance to meet other mums and dads and be introduced to the Children’s Centre services.  This runs on the second Tuesday of the month at Caister Children’s Centre.

Scales are available to self-weigh your child in our Caterpillars baby groups and Newtown Stay and Play session.

Baby Massage
The Benefits of Baby Massage are:
• Relaxing and calming for baby and parent
• Skin to skin contact – an opportunity to feel closer and bond with baby. Bonding is a process that develops over time.
• Eye to eye contact for baby and parent – learning baby’s behaviour, crying and body language
• May relieve colic, wind, constipation and teething discomfort
• Increases parent’s confidence in caring and nurturing for baby.

Babies will need to have had their 6 week check by their health professional.

Bounce and Rhyme Time
Held weekly during term-time at Caister Library on Beach Road.  Stories and songs suitable for all babies and pre-school children.  Sessions include parachute games, musical instruments and hand-puppets.  Click here to view Norfolk Library Service

 

Caterpillars baby group

Drop-in group for parents / carers of babies (pre-mobile).  Sensory experiences for babies to explore.  Come and meete other parents and find information and advice on being a new parent if you need it.  Covers topics such as safety, sleep and illnesses.  Advice  on Introducing Your Child To Solid Foods is available from a member of the health team in some sessions.

Held at Caister Children’s Centre and at Newtown Community Centre.

If you are interested in joining a Computer course in the future please call us to register your interest.

Family Stay and Play
We hold two Family Stay and Play sessions most weeks.  There is a session on a Thursday morning at Caister Children’s Centre.  There is a session on a Friday morning at Newtown Community Centre, Beatty Close, NR30 4HJ.There are always lots of toys and fun including messy play. A song and rhyme time is included at the end of every session to help children to develop their language skills.

Healthy snack and drinks are provided for the children.     It’s all free!

 

Forest School
We have a qualified Level 3 Forest Schools Leader, Nicky Cook, who is inviting children and families to take part in activities in the Forest School area of the school field.Places are limited and children aged 2 – 5 years and families will be selected to take part using our admissions criteria (see our policies page for more information).  We aim to increase the social and emotional development and communication skills of the children through encouraging them to work together, learn new skills and raise their sense of self and self-esteem.To request a place on our sessions please contact us on 01493 721180

The Tens machine provides pain relief through electrical impulses from 37 weeks of pregnancy.

One-to-one family support services
For those families who need additional support our experienced and trained staff can visit you at home to help you to resolve parenting and family difficulties.Examples of ways in which staff have helped include:

  • Toilet training advice and support
  • Managing difficult/unwanted behaviour
  • Signposting to debt advice
  • Liaison with housing support workers
  • Supporting parents to make suitable contact arrangements when relationships breakdown
  • Home safety equipment
  • Completing DLA paperwork
  • Supporting children’s transition from home to pre-school (for children with disabilities)

 

Parents’ Forum and Coffee and Chat
An opportunity to be involved in the design of children’s centre services – coming to a group near you!Once a term our staff will attend our centre activities to ask your thoughts on aspects of our work and give you the chance to have your say.We also hold Coffee and Chat once a term with a supporting crèche to allow parents and carers to meet and share their views with us.  See our programme on our Activity Timetable page for details.Your feedback is important to the Centre!

 

Speech and Language Therapy Drop-in
A drop-in is held at Caister Children’s Centre.  If you have any concerns about your child’s speech, language and communication and need help or advice you can drop-in and chat with a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.No appointment is needed.  For further information call 01493 809977.

 

Understanding Your Children (Using the Solihull Approach)
This course gives parents time to think about their child’s behaviour and develop a better understanding of how the parent / child relationship can affect children’s behaviour.  A 10 week course with limited crèche places.
